One of the biggest questions we get asked at Creative Design Solutions is how long a project will take to complete. For the past year, we have been writing about the comprehensive process that we guide each client through. We know it’s extremely important to set realistic expectations for project timelines both from a design and a build standpoint. So, we wanted to share with you how to schedule your design projects.
TIMELINE GUIDELINES
We book for initial consultations based on our current client schedule. You may click here to inquire about our next available consultation. From there, this is a typical timeline we follow:
- Week 1-2: Once we receive a signed proposal, we will schedule an appointment to take house measurements. This is followed by design time and a presentation review with the client.
- Week 3-6: Discussion with contractor to set a budget for the construction cost of the project. If we need to redesign the scope to add or remove features, the timeline may be extended.
- Week 7-9: Creation and presentation of construction drawings.
- Week 10-13: ** Project dependent. Send plans to a structural engineer to include structural information, seal plans and obtain refined quotes from contractor(s).
- Week 14-17: ** Project dependent. Once a contractor has been hired and final plans have been drawn up, the general contractor will submit those plans for permitting through the county.
- Week 18-21: Time for review before we begin the project.
The complexity of each project will determine which steps are necessary and how long each project will take to prepare for.
TIMELINE CONSIDERATIONS
Before we begin your project, you will want to keep the following in mind:
- Which season you would like your project completed in? For instance, if you are planning an outdoor living space such as a pool, or a cabana, we suggest contacting us in October so that we can ensure it’s ready by the summer. Or, if you wanted to complete a kitchen project before the holidays, we suggest starting in April so it’s done ahead of time and you can move back in and arrange things the way you like.
- Consider school breaks, vacations and upcoming work travel. What is the best time for you to be present in the planning of the design and construction?
- Do you plan to rent while your home is under construction? When can you get into your rental property?
- If you plan to stay in your home, consider the construction implications. Will this affect your children as they study? Are you at home while you work?
- How much time can you invest in material selections?
We want you to be prepared and ready before we begin a new project. If you have any questions about the best time to begin, please let us know!
